Liverpool Theatre Festival welcomes Godber's Shakers

John Godber’s comedy cocktail Shakers comes to Liverpool Theatre Festival at the Bombed Out Church next week. And Godber and his co-writer, wife Jane Thornton, have given RTB Productions permission to tweak the story to bring it up to date – along with giving in a ‘Scouse twist’. The show is being staged on Tuesday, September 15 as part of the nine-day outdoor festival at the landmark St Luke’s in Leece Street. Long-suffering cocktail waitresses Carol (Danielle McLauren), Ade

Cabaret comes to Liverpool Hope Street in 32 Above

West End singers will join rising Liverpool musical theatre performers in a series of cabaret shows in Hope Street this autumn. 32 Above is the brainchild of the city’s musical director George Francis (pictured) and pays homage to New York’s 54 Below – the cabaret venue in the basement of the legendary Studio 54. Three socially distanced 32 Above cabaret evenings will be held at The Pillbox@ Frederiks – on Wednesdays September 23, October 14 and October 28. A maximum of 50 ti

Open Eye Gallery has become the latest Liverpool attraction to reopen its doors to visitors. The Mann Island photographic gallery is showing The Time We Call Our Own which was due to originally open at the start of April – until the Coronavirus pandemic lockdown plunged city venues into darkness. Social distancing measures are in place at the waterfront venue which will initially be open from Thursdays to Sundays, from 11am to 4pm. Capacity has been reduced to allow plenty of

Liverpool Everyman rock 'n' roll panto postponed

The Liverpool Everyman has postponed its popular Rock ‘n’ Roll panto because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. The Hope Street theatre was planning to stage its own unique version of Robin Hood this Christmas, having announced the show – written by Mark Chatterton and Sarah A Nixon – many months ago. But now theatre chiefs have decided the run is not financially viable with strict social distancing measures still likely to be in place, and have postponed the Sherwood Fores

Liverpool streets become stage for live shows

Performance comes to the streets of Liverpool this weekend as the city’s Without Walls initiative continues. Last weekend saw a myriad of music-based entertainment spring up outdoors including Bev’s Busking Bonanza in Williamson Square and classical music in Castle Street. Now today and tomorrow, September 5 and 6, it’s the turn of theatre and related performances to take centre stage. Attractions include the Birdcage Stage (pictured above at Sgt Pepper at 50 celebrations), a
