Liverpool Theatre Festival welcomes Godber's Shakers
John Godber’s comedy cocktail Shakers comes to Liverpool Theatre Festival at the Bombed Out Church next week.
And Godber and his co-writer, wife Jane Thornton, have given RTB Productions permission to tweak the story to bring it up to date – along with giving in a ‘Scouse twist’.
The show is being staged on Tuesday, September 15 as part of the nine-day outdoor festival at the landmark St Luke’s in Leece Street.
Long-suffering cocktail waitresses Carol (Danielle McLauren), Adele (Alice Bunker-Whitney) Nicky (Jennifer Vaudrey) and Mel (Isobel Balchin) work together at Shakers, serving drinks to a host of characters while offering a fascinating view of what really happens behind the scenes.
The play was originally written in 1985 as a sister piece to Godber’s Bouncers, and was first performed by Hull Truck Theatre. In the last 35 years it has been staged from Los Angeles to Dubai via Europe including Prague where it was performed in rep for 12 years.
Director Margaret Connell says: “We’re thrilled to be bringing Shakers to St Luke’s as part of Liverpool Theatre Festival. Live theatre has been sorely missed and it feels great to be creating again.”
Shakers is at the Bombed Out Church on September 15 at 7.30pm. Tickets HERE
