Open-air cinema comes to Calderstones Mansion this summer with a handpicked selection of films set to be shown on a big screen.
The eight movies will be screened in the Garden Theatre space at The Reader’s Calderstones base during evenings in July and August.
Film fans can settle down in a deckchair and enjoy a range of cinematic classics, from literary adaptations like Little Women and Sense and Sensibility to musical smash hits like Mamma Mia! to family favourite Matilda.
The season opens on July 30 with the Shakespeare-inspired 10 Things I Hate About You, and continues on July 31 when Willy Russell’s classic Shirley Valentine will be screened.
Greta Gerwig’s Little Women comes to Calderstones on August 7, ABBA-infused hit Mamma Mia! on August 8, Austen’s Sense and Sensibility on August 10, Baz Lurhmann’s Romeo + Juliet on August 15, Matilda the Musical on August 27 and Wicked on August 28.
Tickets cost £14.50 for adults and £9.50 for under 16s, and food and drink will be available on site. Deckchairs cost £5 to hire, or people can bring their own blankets or seats.
The new outdoor cinema has been made possible thanks to a grant by social investor Livv Investment, part of Prescot-based Livv Housing Group.
Jen Chapman, associate director of marketing, communications & digital at The Reader, said: “Open-air cinema is such a fun experience, and our gorgeous Mansion House garden in Calderstones Park is just the perfect space for it.
“We’ve carefully chosen some of the very best, and much-loved adaptations of literary classics told on the big screen – all best enjoyed with a freshly baked pizza, a chilled glass of fizz and someone you love.”
