Legendary Liverpool club Eric’s marks its half-century this autumn – and to celebrate it is set to enjoy a very special night at the city’s Philharmonic Hall.
Eric’s at 50, on Friday, October 2, will feature artists who appeared in the Mathew Street club along with never-before-seen footage and tales from the time.
The event is being curated by the club’s founding director Ken Testi.
Full details of the line-up, ticket prices and an on-sale date are yet to be announced.
Eric’s was the brainchild of Testi, Roger Eagle and Pete Fulwell, and opened its doors on October 1, 1976, originally in the basement of the Fruit Exchange Building on the corner of Victoria Street before moving around the corner to the world-famous Mathew Street.
It inspired a new thriving Liverpool counterculture for the first time in a decade and the emergence of a whole new generation of bands from the city in the wake of punk and its aftermath.
Major names like The Police, Blondie, The Clash, Ultravox, The Stranglers and The Sex Pistols were all drawn to appear at the club.
Meanwhile among those from Liverpool and its surroundings who were nurtured there were Echo and the Bunnymen, OMD, Wah! Heat, The Teardrop Explodes and Big in Japan – the latter of whose members would later pop up in groups like Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Siouxsie and the Banshees and the Lightning Seeds.
Eric’s at 50 takes place at the Philharmonic Hall on Friday, October 2. More details and tickets when available HERE
