Rainbows light up Liverpool sites for Pride 2018
There may not be much rain about at the moment but there are plenty of rainbows springing up all over Liverpool.
As the sun goes down the lights are going on to mark this weekend’s Liverpool Pride.
Come Out of the Shadows, now in its third year, sees the city and wider region shining a light on diversity with some of the most famous and recognisable building being illuminated in rainbow colours.
Among the sites being lit are St John’s Beacon, St George’s Hall, Liverpool Central Library, FACT, the Royal Court, Everyman and Playhouse theatres, Anfield’s legendary Kop, Bootle, Wallasey and St Helens town halls, the Mersey Gateway Bridge and New Brighton's Floral Pavilion.
And this year people are also being encouraged to light sites in pink, blue and white, the colours of the international Trans flag.
Michael Carey, from Liverpool Pride Festival, said: “Our aim is simple, to challenge hate crime. This year in remembrance of Michael Causer who died 10 years ago following a homophobic attack, Come Out of the Shadows has been extended to August 2.
“This spectacle of colour has real meaning and supported by key partners across Liverpool City Region, we ask you to reflect on why this campaign is important and to help us change attitudes to make LGBT+ hate crime a thing of the past.”
Come Out of the Shadows runs until August 2. Liverpool Pride takes place this weekend.
