Owl and Pussycat sailing into Knowsley for Borough of Culture year

A giant sculpture trail celebrating Knowsley Hall’s links with Edward Lear will be part of Knowsley’s 2022 Borough of Culture celebrations. The poet penned his famous verse The Owl and the Pussycat while staying with the Earl of Derby and his family in 1871. A trail of 30 pairs of 6ft (2m) tall owls and cats, designed by Derbyshire-based Wild in Art, will be installed across the borough next summer. A new immersive experience is being launched at St George’s Hall this month to help share the landmark building’s rich history with visitors. The History Whisperer uses the latest technology to bring to life Liverpool in the 1850s and is a focal point of the new £250,000 St George’s Hall Experience. Review: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at Liverpool Playhouse ****

You wait for one play about simmering family secrets, lies and resentments exploding at a 65th birthday party – and then two come along in the space of a week. But while at the Everyman the torrid emotions and bitter words tumble out against the cluttered backdrop of Sefton Coast domesticity, this revival of Tennessee Williams’ sultry Mississippi Delta story – an E&P co-production in residence at the Playhouse this week - is shorn of its usual Southern comfort and fussy furbe

Blundellsands actor Gemma on her 'gift' of a role at the Everyman

Gemma Brodrick is sharing a dressing room at the Liverpool Everyman this autumn – and she couldn’t be happier. Lawrence rose to fame in the late 1980s on the hit TV improv series Whose Line is it Anyway? and it appears she still keeps her hand in. Brodrick laughs: “She allows me to sho
