A Mix at the Music Room

There's an eclectic mix of musical styles on show at the Music Room at the Philharmonic Hall over the next four weeks.

From 'Michael Jackson' to Police Dog Hogan and a brass band, the venue is playing host to a diverse mixture of gigs.

First up is a Triple Tribute Night of Soul-Male Icons on April 15, celebrating the music of Jackson, Lionel Ritchie and Marvin Gaye.

Plus the evening includes support from DJ Wink playing soul classics both old and new. In a complete change of pace, that is followed by two shows from Fascinating Aida's Dillie Keane on April 18-19.

Keane is actually on a break from Aida, but fans can expect lashings of what are being billed as "new tunes, grand old favourites, gorgeous songs of love and hilarious songs of utter wickedness". British country/folk/bluegrass Police Dog Hogan make a date for the Sugnall Street venue on April 21, but if you haven't already bagged a ticket then you're going to be disappointed because the show is a sell out.

The second in a series of Django's Legacy concerts takes place the following night, April 22, when world-renowned gypsy jazz guitarist Robin Nolan brings his trio to Liverpool. Apparently his new album Sin City features AC/DC classics given a personal gypsy jazz makeover. Surely a first?

Liverpool's own Kathryn Williams also has a new album out, titled Resonator, and makes her Music Room debut on St George's Day, April 23, with the Mercury Prize nominee due to perform songs from across her career.

And finally, on April 27, the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Brass Band will be blowing its own trumpet (and trombone, tuba and horn) by showcasing everything from rousing brass band music to symphonic classics, all under the baton of RLPO principal trombone Simon Cowen.
