Chester Literature Festival to mark 30th anniversary

Chester Literature Festival is promising to celebrate its 30th anniversary in style this year.

Sir Michael Morpurgo, Roger McGough and Benjamin Zephaniah are the first wave of names to be announced for the 10-day festival which takes place from November 9-19.

Morpurgo, author of more than 130 books including War Horse and Private Peaceful, makes a date for Storyhouse on November 9 as part of his 75th birthday tour, and promises to reveal the secrets nearly 50 years of writing have taught him.

Mersey poet Roger McGough will appear on November 15 when he will discuss his exuberant new collection Joinedupwriting which ranges from forgotten friendships and the idiosyncrasies of family life to the trauma of war and global politics.

Benjamin Zephaniah was unable to read and write at school but has become one of Britain’s most celebrated poets.

His first tour in eight years coincides with his autobiography, The Life and Rhymes Of Benjamin Zephaniah, and on November 23 fans can expect to hear how he fought injustice and discrimination to lead a remarkable life, while sharing a selection of his favourite stories and poems.
