War Horse gallops back to the Liverpool Empire for 2019

War Horse is returning to the Liverpool Empire next summer.

The multi award-winning National Theatre production will be stabled at the Lime Street theatre for 18 days from July 31 to August 17.

The show, which has been seen by more than seven million people worldwide, enjoyed a successful run at the theatre in November 2017 when it played to record audiences.

Author Sir Michael Morpurgo said today: “Joey the War Horse, and his great team from the National Theatre, are touring the UK again, taking their show all over the country, to towns and cities.

“I’m so pleased this is happening; that so many more people will have the chance to enjoy this unique theatrical event. Steady boy, steady Joey. Trot on!”

A tale of courage, loyalty and friendship, War Horse tells the story of a young boy called Albert and his horse Joey, set against the backdrop of the First World War.

Directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, Nick Stafford’s adaptation of Morpurgo’s remarkable story features ground-breaking puppetry work by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company which brings breathing, galloping horses to life on stage.
