St George’s Hall’s famed Minton tiled floor will be uncovered for viewing this summer for the first time in three years.

The exquisite floor, which features 30,000 hand crafted tiles, will be on display to visitors from July 17 to September 2.

It was last revealed in 2023 when upwards of 20,000 people came to marvel at its stunning mosaic designs which cover the sunken floor of the Great Hall at the Grade I listed Lime Street landmark and include Liver birds, sea nymphs, tridents and Roman gods along with roses, thistles and shamrocks to represent England, Scotland and Wales.

The 2026 uncovering will also feature a complementary programme of events including immersive tours, creative workshops, an archival exhibition at the hall – in conjunction with Liverpool Central Library - and live performances from musicians including pianist Brad Kella who will appear in the Concert Room on August 29.

Special guided tours on the floor itself are also available throughout the run, with visitors asked to don shoe covers to protect the 170-year-old tiles.

General tickets for viewing the encaustic Minton floor are £6 for adults and £3 for children with youngsters under five going free. Booking fees apply.

Proceeds will go toward the upkeep of St George’s Hall.

Angie Redhead, Head of Operations at Culture Liverpool, says: “St George’s Hall has many amazing features, but the Minton floor is the one that truly takes people’s breath away. This extended summer reveal gives visitors more time than ever to enjoy it, alongside an event programme that has something for everyone to enjoy from music to mindfulness and from history to yoga.

“And I love that Brad Kella is as excited as we are to perform in our beautiful Concert Room.”

The Minton floor will be on display from July 17 to September 2. For more details about the programme of events and to book tickets visit the website HERE
