Spend An Evening with Celia Imrie at Liverpool Playhouse

Celia Imrie will lift the lid on her acting career and celebrate the publication of her latest novel when she appears at the Liverpool Playhouse this summer.

An Evening With Celia Imrie takes place at the Williamson Square theatre on July 4.

The Olivier Award-winning stage and screen star and novelist will talk about her diverse and stellar career which has seen her enjoy a series of successful roles in films like Bridget Jones’s Diary, Calendar Girls, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, along with TV appearances alongside the late Victoria Wood including Acorn Antiques and dinnerladies.

Her stage credits include King Lear at the Old Vic alongside Glenda Jackson and Jane Horrocks, The School for Scandal at the RSC, and Acorn Antiques - the Musical for which she won an Olivier as best supporting actress. In 2009 she appeared in Mixed Up North at the Everyman.

As part of 'an Evening with' she will also showcase her latest book Meet Me at Rainbow Corner – set in Liverpool and London and inspired by the resilience and camaraderie of women during the Second World War.

Tickets at £39 include a hardback copy of the novel.

Imrie will be joined by the book’s researcher, Fidelis Morgan, to talk about the background of the novel which draws on real-life stories and experiences, woven into a story about a band of courageous women who find themselves working alongside GI soldiers.

There will also be a Q&A session for audience members.

Imrie and actor and writer Morgan have known each other since 1975 and last spring they also appeared at the Merseyside Maritime Museum to talk about one of Imrie’s previous books, Orphans of the Storm, which tells the story of a mother’s quest to find her children, set against the backdrop of the sinking of the Titanic.

The actress is related to Liverpool shipowner William Imrie, a partner in the White Star Line, while Morgan’s parents were expat Liverpudlians.
