Sister Act comes to the Liverpool Empire in 2023

The hit stage musical version of Sister Act comes to the Liverpool Empire next spring – and casting has been announced.

Sandra Marvin (Emmerdale, Waitress, Hairspray, Chicago) will play Deloris Del Cartier, the role made famous by Whoopi Goldberg, while Birds of a Feather’s Lesley Joseph will appear as the Mother Superior.

And Lizzie Bea, who is currently starring in Heathers the Musical, will take on the part of the naïve but sweet-voiced Sister Mary Robert.

Based on the 1992 film, this tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music tells the story of disco diva Deloris whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder.

Under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found – a convent. Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

The musical features original numbers by Tony and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Disney’s Aladdin, Enchanted) and lyrics by Glenn Slater.

Sister Act the Musical is at the Liverpool Empire from May 15-20 2023. Tickets HERE
