John Godber’s dandy new comedy The Highwayman rides in to Prescot in June to entertain audiences at Shakespeare North Playhouse.

It’s 1769, and everyone is flocking north; every ale house is packed with the great and the bad.

The North is the place to be - a region drunk on making money, social climbing, gambling and gin, but with wealth in abundance, the temptation is great.

Told in the style of Godber’s acclaimed classic Bouncers, The Highwayman is billed as ‘a thrilling theatrical adventure’ which is ‘visceral, venal and very funny’.

Directed by Godber and Millie Gaston, the production features music by Ruby Macintosh.

It follows the John Godber Company's visit to the Prescot playhouse earlier this year with its Northern Soul-inspired production Do I Love You?

John Godber said: “I’m looking forward to taking my new play The Highwayman to Shakespeare North Playhouse.

“It’s the perfect place for my kind of theatre, having enjoyed taking Bouncers and Do I Love You? there we can’t wait to bring this historical comedy to Prescot.”

The Highwayman is at Shakespeare North Playhouse from June 25-28. Tickets HERE
