British cult cartoonists Modern Toss are staging a major retrospective of their satirical works in Liverpool this summer.

The interactive show at Northern Lights in Cains Brewery Village features more than 100 works from 21 years of the cult cartoons and caricatures created – or commissioned - by lampooning duo Jon Link and Mick Bunnage.

Running from this Friday until August 10, it includes some of the pair’s most ‘notorious’ work along with new pieces.

Along with a series of comics, Modern Toss has worked across animation, sculpture, painting, interactive art and live performance.

Visitors to Northern Lights will be able to see big stone heads and large-scale paintings, along with the world’s only coin-operated fully flushing gold toilet which blasts out a selection of music on each token operated flush.

Meanwhile the token-operated Periodic Table of Swearing will have a unique nod to classic Scouse insults especially for the Liverpool run.

There will also be limited edition and new works including the wind powered sculpture The Modern Toss Finger Mill.

During the exhibition run, Link will also host weekly portrait sessions in the pair’s Famous Portrait Booth. A limited number of tickets for the sessions will be on sale, allowing people to attend a live drawing event where Link will sketch portraits from within a custom-built photo booth. Each sitter will receive a personal and original drawing, posted to them through the wall of the photo booth.

Other events include a Wednesday Morning Work Therapy session which combines a mixture of whale song and swearing, and an art appreciation tour from Modern Toss expert Dan Hipkin.

Link says: "A lot of our work is based on people telling their boss where to stick it, so we figured Liverpool would be the perfect starting point to kick off our tour.

“The city’s got a sense of humour, a strong bullshit filter, and people who aren’t afraid to laugh at the state of things, hopefully they’ll still be laughing after they’ve been to our exhibition."

General entry is £14 which includes five tokens for the interactive exhibits, while early bird tickets, if available, are £12. A Portrait Booth session is £45. All tickets are subject to booking fees.

The Modern Toss retrospective is at Northern Lights, Mann Street, Cains Brewery Village from July 25 to August 10. More details and tickets HERE
