BBC Proms to come to St George's Hall

The BBC Proms are coming to Liverpool for the first time with a concert at St George’s Hall this month.

Dudok Quartet Amsterdam will perform a lunchtime programme in the Lime Street landmark’s concert room on August 22.

The programme features Brahms’ String Quartet in A minor and 20th Century British composer Doreen Carwithen’s String Quartet no 2.

The creative and versatile quartet are described as four young string players who “believe chamber music is an act of friendship and that anything this good deserves to be shared.”

Tickets are £19.25, while a limited number of £6 'Promming' tickets will being released on the morning of the concert which will be broadcast live on Radio 3 and also available on BBC Sounds online.

BBC Proms director David Pickard said: “At the heart of the Proms has always been a prevailing aim to bring the best of classical music to the widest possible audience.

“I’m delighted that we’re able to extend that further this year with world-class chamber music concerts taking place across the UK, and I’m looking forward to hearing the Dudok Quartet of Amsterdam in the magnificent surroundings of Liverpool’s St George’s Hall.”
