Tate Liverpool reopening plans revealed

Tate Liverpool has reopened to the public.

The Royal Albert Dock attraction closed in March alongside other arts venues at the start of the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

Now it, along with Tate Britain, Tate Modern and Tate St Ives, has opened its doors for visitors once more.

Social distancing measures have been put in place and all visitors, including Tate Members, will need to book a timed ticket ahead of their arrival. Tickets are available online.

A one way system is in place which guides visitors through the building, including through the Constellations galleries on the first and second floors, Ideas Depot on the first floor - an exhibition of pieces from the Tate Collection curated in collaboration with Liverpool primary school teachers, and Op Art in Focus on the second floor.

Meanwhile new audio-visual installation by artist Mikhail Karikis titled Ferocious Love, reflecting young people’s views of an environmentally uncertain future, is being staged in the ground-floor Wolfson Gallery.

Hand sanitiser stations are set up around the building and visitors are being recommended to wear face coverings, although currently they won't be compulsory. The cafe and shop will also reopen although only card or contactless payments will be taken on site.

The Don McCullin retrospective exhibition, which was due to take place this summer, has moved to the autumn instead, opening on September 16 and running until May 9. 2021.

It means the previously scheduled autumn programme will not take place.

Tate Liverpool Director Helen Legg said: “We’re excited to be bringing the much-anticipated Don McCullin exhibition to Liverpool in the autumn and to be able to extend it well into 2021 so visitors have a longer chance to immerse themselves in his extraordinary images.

“It is also wonderful to reopen the gallery with a new commission, Ferocious Love, by Mikhail Karikis, who worked with young people to explore themes of community and togetherness as we step into a changing and uncertain future. Commissioned before the pandemic, it could not be more resonant in this moment.”
