Bringing sunshine to Liverpool Playhouse

It was the story that charmed the cinema going public back in 2006.

And now Little Miss Sunshine, a road movie with a difference, is coming to the Liverpool stage this week at the end of its inaugural UK tour.

Selladoor, founded by two LIPA graduates a decade ago, presents the stage musical version of the Oscar-winning story which has been adapted by Tony Award winners James Lapine and William Finn.

Little Miss Sunshine follows the Hoover family on their bumpy journey through life.

Young Olive has her heart set on winning the Little Miss Sunshine beauty contest.

When an invitation to compete comes out of the blue, the Hoovers decide to pile into their rickety yellow camper van and set off West. Can the van survive the 800-mile trip from New Mexico to California – and more importantly, can they?

This uplifting, modern classic – starring Liverpool actor Mark Moraghan as Grandpa - celebrates the quirks of every family, the potholes in every road, and the power of overcoming our differences.

Everyman and Playhouse artistic director Gemma Bodinetz says: “Little Miss Sunshine takes a much-loved and hilarious film as its inspiration.

"We’re sure this will delight both those familiar with the film and those discovering the story for the first time.”
