Mersey Beatles present Abbey Road at Liverpool arena

The 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ Abbey Road album will be celebrated in a special concert at Liverpool’s arena this autumn.

The Mersey Beatles will play the home gig in the Auditorium at the M&S Bank Arena on November 29 as the finale of a 2019 world tour.

They show will feature Abbey Road played in its entirety, followed by a set of Fab Four classics.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 29 at 10am.

Abbey Road was released on September 29 1969, and is regarded by many Beatles’ fans as one of the band’s finest records. Although Let It Be was the final record released by The Beatles before their split in 1970, Abbey Road was the last LP to be recorded in its entirety.

It features a host of brilliant tracks including Come Together, Something, Here Comes the Sun, and the famous medley which concludes with the poignant line “and in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”

While Abbey Road is 50, The Mersey Beatles celebrate their 20th anniversary this year. The group was formed in 1999 and was the resident band at the Cavern for more than a decade.

Since then, Mark Bloor (John), Steven Howard (Paul), Craig McGown (George) and Brian Ambrose (Ringo) have won fans across the world, and this 2019 tour features dates across the US, Australia, the Far East and Europe.

Steve Howard said: “It’s been an amazing 20 years, from our first pub gig in Wavertree in 1999, our 10-year residency at The Cavern, to touring theatres around the world.

“But at the end of the day we’re proud Liverpool lads, mad Beatles fans, so this is going to be an amazing night at the arena for all of us and all those who have supported us down the years.”
