YEP brings Crowd to the Liverpool Playhouse stage

YEP makes its main stage debut at the Liverpool Playhouse this month with a new devised show.

Crowd will see the Young Everyman Playhouse performers tackle issues of everyday society and specifically the mentality of ‘the crowd’, in a piece devised entirely by the company.

It follows previous thought-provoking pieces - The Environmentalists, The Establishment and The City and Value of Things – which have been produced over the past three years.

Crowd takes the young theatre-makers’ personal experiences and feelings to transport very real issues of today into a fictitious world, examining the rise of populist and autocratic leaders across the globe and charting the rise of a strong leader using themes of control, surveillance through modern technology, and state sponsored violence.

YEP associate director Chris Tomlinson said: “It’s massively important for us to give young people the responsibility of putting on a huge show, like Crowd, in a space like the Playhouse.

“They thrive off the responsibility of owning a piece of theatre, and to stand by the work that they actually make. “
