Gaming and rollplay takes centre stage at FACT

The world of gaming and the avatars who inhabit it is being explored in a new immersive exhibition at FACT.

States of Play: Roleplay Reality looks at the creation of virtual worlds through the works of a number of artists, producers and platforms, and explores how gamers create online identities to ask – how do the roles we play reflect our realities…and how do they shape them?

Works on show across the Wood Street venue’s galleries and public spaces include Larry Achiampong and David Blandy’s FF Gaiden: Control, commissioned by FACT and filmed at Altcourse Prison.

David O’Reilly’s award-winning Everything is a video game which lets you choose to be one of 3,000 playable characters, while the best-selling multi-player game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is being exhibited in a gallery for the first time.

Many of the works allow the viewer to engage in hands-on fashion as playable games.

But be aware there are also two pieces in the first floor gallery which show graphic violent content and are for over 18s only.

States of Play: Roleplay Reality is at FACT until June 17 and is free.
