RIBA unveils its winter events for Liverpool

A new winter season of exhibitions has been revealed by RIBA North, kicking off with Cerámica.

The show, which runs from October 28 to February 10, explores how traditional ceramic techniques and digital engineering processes can be used together to produce more meaningful and sustainable architectural elements.

Alongside the exhibition there will be a series of events including curator’s tours, artists’ talks and Clay Play, an opportunity for families to come and experiment with clay and create unique decorative tiles.

Meanwhile from this month, the Mann Island gallery is also showcasing scale models of the six finalists for the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize, whose previous winners include the Liverpool Everyman.

The models illustrate the best architecture in the UK, and showcase some of the most careful three-dimensional scale model making.

Hastings Pier, designed by dRMM Architects, was announced the winner of the 2017 prize. Other contenders were Barrett’s Grove, Stoke Newington, east London by Groupwork + Amin Taha; British Museum World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre, Bloomsbury, London by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners; Command of the Oceans by Baynes and Mitchell Architects for Chatham Historic Dockyard in Kent City of Glasgow College - City Campus, Scotland by Reiach & Hall Architects and Michael Laird Architects and Photography Studio for Juergen Teller, west London by 6a architects.

The models go on display from November 10 and it is the first time in the prize’s history they have been exhibited outside London.

Meanwhile from December 6 to February 24, RIBA North will host an exhibition of the RIBA Presidents Medals, an award which is given to the best student projects from across the world, rewarding talent, promoting innovation, and encouraging excellence in the study of architecture worldwide.

This year 275 entries were received from 87 schools of architecture in 33 countries.

Our winter season is packed with activities to appeal to all our visitors: from families to design professionals and architects.”
