Take tea and tour historic Liverpool Town Hall

Fancy a spot of high tea in the splendid surroundings of Liverpool’s Town Hall?

Well you’re in luck, because that’s exactly what is being offered during August, as the historic building opens its doors for what it is calling two weeks of ‘tours, teas and tipples’.

Visitors can enjoy a chilled glass of fizz on the balcony where the Beatles waved to the crowds back in 1964, and take tours of the 18th century architectural gem in the company of city historian Steve Binns to learn more about the building and its place in Liverpool’s history.

Or you can just wander around yourself at your leisure.

Tea will be served in the intimate Lord Mayor’s Parlour from August 17-20 as part of National Afternoon Tea Week, and costs £17 (or £22 with a glass of Prosecco). Booking is essential.

Or if you want something a bit more relaxed on the hoof, there is also the new Cake at the Crypt Café on site.

Liverpool’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Malcolm Kennedy, said: “The Town Hall is one of Liverpool’s gems – architecturally it’s stunning, inside and out, so this is a fantastic opportunity for both locals and visitors to spend some time here and see this amazing building for themselves.

“The open days were extremely popular last year – in particular the guided tours as visitors were wowed by Steve’s encyclopaedic knowledge of the hall, and the fascinating history to the building.

“I’m sure the addition of afternoon tea will prove to be a huge hit and I look forward to partaking in a scone or two with visitors!”

Liverpool Town Hall is open from August 14-27, and tours cost £5. To book a place, call 0151 233 3020.
