Tung Auditorium reveals spring 2024 programme

Dame Patricia Routledge, Fairport Convention, Kathryn Tickell and ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris are among the well-known faces coming to Liverpool’s Tung Auditorium for spring 2024.

The state-of-the-art concert hall, based in the University of Liverpool’s Yoko Ono Lennon building, has revealed its January to July programme of events.

Birkenhead-born stage and screen star Patricia Routledge will take part in an ‘in conversation’ titled Facing the Music: A Life in Theatre at the venue on March 23. The 94-year-old may be best known to many for roles like Hyacinth Bucket, but she also trained as a singer and has Tony and Olivier awards for her musical theatre performances.

Fairport Convention come to the auditorium on February 10, supported by Plumhall, while Kathryn Tickell & The Darkening explore the connected threads of music, landscape and people from their Northumbrian home on April 28.

And Bob Harris joins former Mendips custodian Colin Hall on May 25 to talk about The Songs the Beatles Gave Away, complete with archive recordings of Harris’ interviews with Lennon and McCartney.

They are part of a busy programme of concerts and events throughout the first half of the year which also features the Pavel Haas Quartet, Ensemble 10:10 and concerts by the RLPO – including a Tung Auditorium debut for chief conductor Domingo Hindoyan, Liverpool Mozart Orchestra, the Solem Quartet, University of Liverpool musicians and singers, and Milap.

Along with classical musicians and singers, there are also visits from talented performers from the worlds of jazz and flamenco.

International Women’s Day is marked with two events – Amplifying Voices on March 6 and Sarah Jane Morris’ The Sisterhood Project on March 8.

The Allott/Poetry Society Annual Lecture on May 9 features multi award-winning South Korean poet Don Mee Choi, while the university’s annual Samuel Beckett celebration takes place on June 2.

And the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company Festival takes place in early July ahead of the Youth Orchestra’s visit to Italy to perform in the Florence Youth Festival.
