A ‘bold and deeply moving’ new comedy inspired by the late Paul O’Grady is set to come to the Liverpool Playhouse next spring prior to a West End run.
SAVAGE, written by Liverpool playwright Jonathan Harvey and created with O’Grady’s blessing, tells the story of the life of the late star and his most famous creation – the ‘Blonde Bombsite’ Lily Savage.
It will be staged at the Playhouse from March 16-20, 2027, and will feature Wirral-born RuPaul Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard in the leading role.
Tickets go on general sale this Wednesday, June 17.
Before the spotlight, there was a working-class boy from Birkenhead with a sharp tongue, thick skin and something to say.
SAVAGE follows Paul’s journey from the streets of Merseyside to the heart of London’s club scene, where, armed with little more than his wits and a wig, he began carving out a place for himself.
From humble roots and an unassuming start emerged Lily Savage: the fearless, foul-mouthed alter ego who would defy convention and win the hearts of millions.
Jonathan Harvey says: “It really captures the spirit of who Paul – and Lily – were.”
Directed by Nikolai Foster, SAVAGE is a co-production between ROYO, Hope Mille Theatre, Eilene Davidson Productions and Leicester Curve, and will be premiered at the Curve in February before travelling to the Playhouse. There are a limited number of other dates ahead of a London run.
SAVAGE is at the Liverpool Playhouse from March 16-20, 2027. Details and tickets HERE
