La Feria festival returns to Liverpool for 2024
A festival which celebrates the ‘beauty and diversity’ of Latin American culture is set to return to Liverpool venues for a sixth year.
La Feria takes place between September 10 and 15.
The festival, organised by the city’s Luma Creations, promises a programme of art, music, theatre, dance and food which highlights the rich cultural tapestry of the continent.
It includes performances by award-winning international and local artists from countries including Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela.
The festival opens on September 10 with an exhibition of Latin American arts and culture at St George’s Hall. The display, in the Grade I listed venue’s Visitor Centre, runs until October 10.
On September 11 there is a chance to catch Ephemeral Theatre’s REWIND at the Bluecoat. The award-winning play is billed as a gripping narrative of a young woman called Alicia’s defiance against authoritarianism and combines music, movement, puppetry and innovative lighting.
The Music Room at the Philharmonic Hall is the venue for two evenings of fantastic live music on September 12 and 13.
Nano Stern from Chile and Columbia’s Marta Gomez appear on September 12 where they will blend their unique styles in one unforgettable performance.
Top: Lokandes Tropical will appear at Fiesta Latina at District.
Multi-instrumentalist, singer, and composer Stern’s work blends roots music, folk, rock, jazz, trova, and musical experimentation, while singer-songwriter Gomez creates music which is a blend of jazz and Latin-American folk rhythms.
Then on September 13, Brazil’s Hamilton de Holanda Trio take to the stage to captivate Liverpool audiences with their award-winning improvisation and compositions.
The action moves outdoors on Saturday, September 14, with a free Latin American Street Fiesta in Castle Street from 4pm, featuring live music, dance and street arts.
And in the evening it shifts to District in the Baltic Triangle for a Fiesta Latina featuring psychedelic cumbia fusion band Lokandes Tropical, DJ Jose Luis from Venezuela, and more.
Finally, on Sunday, September 15 there is A Taste of Latin America, a free community event at Sefton Park Palm House celebrating Latin American musicians, dancers, street artists and food.
