Goldilocks skips in to St Helens Theatre Royal this Christmas

St Helens Theatre Royal will stage Goldilocks and the Three Bears this Christmas.

The seasonal panto, from Regal Entertainments, will run from December 10 to January 9 at the Matcham-built venue in the centre of the town.

Casting is yet to be announced.

The panto was originally due to be staged this Easter but plans had to be changed because of the ongoing Coronavirus lockdown.

In the story Goldilocks, with the help of the Three Bears, tries to save her Big Top from a rival circus owner.

The team at St Helens is renowned for staging popular family-friendly pantos, and producers promise the show will offer family fun, unbelievable circus tricks, and madcap comedy capers.

Theatre Royal manager Chantelle Nolan says: “With the vaccination programme rolling out at a fantastic pace and the Government roadmap revealed, there is a glimmer of light at the end of the pandemic tunnel. Everyone is craving live theatre and escapism – and there’s nothing quite like a pantomime to bring out your inner child.

“We’re desperate to bring pantomime back to the St Helens stage after having last year’s Christmas panto run cut short. We’ve all missed out on making so many special memories.

“We have an incredibly fun, exciting and magical show in store for audiences, and we can't wait to see the auditorium filled with joy and laughter – just as it should be.”

Meanwhile the theatre is planning to stage an online Easter panto version of Jack and the Beanstalk.
