Floral Pavilion cancels shows for six weeks due to Covid

No shows will take place at the Floral Pavilion until at least the start of September because of concerns over rising Covid infection rates in Wirral.

Wirral Council, which owns the building, has said the decision was taken “on public health and protection grounds”.

It has revealed that there are a number of staff at the New Brighton venue who are currently isolating either because they have Covid or have been contacted by test and trace.

Anyone who has tickets for any shows between now and August 31 will be contacted, and people have been asked not to try and call the box office direct.

Discussions will be held with promoters and producers about finding new dates for some events.

Shows and performers due to come to the theatre include comedian Paul Smith on July 28, Hits Out of Hell – The Meatloaf Song Book on July 31, Horrible Histories from August 3-5, In the Night Garden Live on August 10-11 and All Above Board, starring Young Ones actor Nigel Planer, from August 23-25.

A council statement said: “Wirral’s infection rate is currently the highest in the Liverpool City Region with an average of 236 new cases every day.”
