Liverpool’s Creative Corner Festival has launched its 2027 search for the best of the next generation of theatre talent.

Creative Corner, now in its second year, is a joint initiative between the Epstein Theatre and the city’s award-winning Naughty Corner Productions.

Applications for the 2027 scheme were officially opened at the Hanover Street theatre this week with a performance by Hannah Rose Curtis of My Beautiful Brain, winner of the inaugural award.

Described as a ‘heart-warming coming-of-age story’, My Beautiful Brain follows Curtis as she navigates the everyday challenges of adulthood with dyslexia.

Curtis was supported to take the show to the Edinburgh Fringe this year for a fully funded, week-long run which garnered four and five-star reviews and Fringe Award.

And she is now taking her production into schools, using theatre to start important conversations.

Creative Corner is designed to give unrepresented writers, producers, directors, and actors a direct, accessible pathway to showcase original work.

Epstein Theatre chief executive Stephen Edgerton says: “The new work of today is the classic work of the future. Creative Corner is about removing traditional barriers and offering real, career-defining backing.

“Winning a fully mounted run at the Edinburgh Fringe gives emerging artists the exact launchpad they need to turn potential into an established career.”

Trisha Duffy of Naughty Corner Productions adds: “Not only did we have our own show performing at the Fringe again this year, but we also had the winner of our first festival there. Hannah’s show did remarkably well, which was so rewarding. We all chose the right performance to debut at Edinburgh, and we really couldn’t be prouder.”

Submissions are being accepted until November 28, with the finalists announced at the Epstein Theatre during its new season launch night on January 16.

Shortlisted finalists will showcase their work before a judging panel on March 20 when the winner will be chosen.
