Christmas events in Liverpool for 2026

Deck the halls and prepare to be merry because Christmas is on the horizon.

Halloween is now a ghost of the past, and Bonfire Night will soon be a distant memory (although the echoing, nightly sound of fireworks is still frightening pets and wildlife across the city).

But despite everything going on in the wider world, there’s still plenty of good cheer to enjoy as Liverpool embarks on its annual celebration of all things Christmas with major public events, carol concerts, serries ranks of Santas, skating and seasonal stalls, festive films, Christmas-themed music and a myriad of other events and activities.

So, with the weather turning noticeably colder, now is the time to think about breaking out the mulled wine, mince pies, spiced hot chocolate and the tinsel and to give yourself up to the yuletide jollity which is promised both indoors and outdoors.

Here’s a look at some of what is on in the run up to the big day itself in 2026.

Liverpool Christmas Market – November 21 until January 3, 2027

Liverpool’s annual Christmas Market has returned to St George’s Plateau and St Johns Gardens, with dozens of stalls offering tempting treats and Christmas gifts.

The market, which runs from 11am to 10pm daily (except Christmas Day), also has several bars and food outlets along with seasonal fairground rides including a Ferris wheel and vintage carousel, and a Christmas tree maze.

And new for 2026 is an outdoor ice-skating experience – Skate St George’s – which will be open from 10am to 10pm daily – apart from December 25. Skate hire is included in the ticket price, or you can bring your own.

Christmas Wonderland at the Pier Head – November 20 to January 3, 2027

Christmas Wonderland takes over the Pier Head for the festive season and into the New Year, offering festive activities for all the family.

This year that includes a huge, covered ice rink and an 85 metre ‘Star Flyer’, along with more than 30 other attractions – from an Ice Jet bobsleigh ride and ice maze to a Light Walk strung with 20,000 bulbs and a Santa’s grotto.

The Star Flyer, which has never been seen in Liverpool before, promises an adrenaline-fuelled rapid journey skywards with (if you have your eyes open!) amazing views from the top.

There will also be more than two dozen food and drink outlets.

Noel at Liverpool Cathedral – November 27 to December 5

A visit by Luxmuralis has become a much-anticipated part of the Christmas programme at Liverpool Cathedral.

This year artist Peter Walker and composer David Harper’s giant son et lumiere, which fills the interior of the Grade I listed landmark, is titled Noel.

The centrepiece of Noel will be the nave where a Byzantine-inspired artwork will be projected across the space as the Nativity story unfolds to a contemporary reimagining of the carol The First Noel.

Christmas Past comes to the well of the cathedral where visitors will be transported through cherished childhood memories, accompanied by a reworking of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite.

Light and sound will also fill other public spaces around the interior of the building, while sculptor Peter Walker’s new collaborative artwork Constellation – a glowing celestial sculpture made up of thousands of paper stars each with a handwritten message from visitors, families and schoolchildren – will make its debut, suspended within the cathedral.
