Cavern Club and Magical Mystery Tour reopening dates revealed

The Cavern Club is planning to reopen its doors to the public on May 17.

The Magical Mystery Tour, Cavern Pub and Festival restaurant in Mathew Street will also open on the same day.

Cavern director Bill Heckle says: “Infrastructure is in place to follow Covid guidelines to enable the safe reopening of all our business.”

Meanwhile the Cavern Club Beatles will return to the stage in the Live Lounge from June 25 and with a new ‘John Lennon’ joining the band.

Adam Hastings, who previously played the role in the Bootleg Beatles, replaces Jimmy Coburn as Lennon and joins Tony Coburn (Paul), Paul Jones (George) and Chris Sharrock (Ringo).

Hastings (pictured above) says: “It’s such an honour to be joining the Cavern Club family.

“Having toured all over the world and lived in America, it feels amazing to be coming home to England and joining great musicians and friends that I have known for over a decade, in the home of The Beatles.”

The Cavern team also plans to run International Beatleweek live for fans in August after the festival was staged online in 2020.

Events director Jon Keats says: “We have a great programme in place and much to celebrate this year. We’ll be aiming to follow this schedule as much as we can while ensuring we adhere to any Government guidelines and safety advice and that may still be in place by the end of August.

“We know there will be restrictions in some countries that may mean many fans and artists are unable to travel this year, however, the festival will take place and for those who cannot be here, we will do our very best to bring the festival to them virtually.”
