Cast revealed for Cherry Jezebel at Liverpool Everyman

Liverpool Everyman has announced casting for its new show Cherry Jezebel which is being premiered at the theatre this spring.

Mickey Jones, who recently played Mickey in Our Lady of Blundellsands, will take on the role of legendary drag queen Cherry Brandy.

Jones is joined on stage by Mariah Louca as Heidi Handjob, Stefan Race as Pearl Reckless and George Jones – who was recently in the Royal Court’s Homebaked the Musical - who plays Mo.

Cherry Jezebel comes from the pen of Hollyoaks writer Jonathan Larkin, whose debut play Paradise Bound was staged at the theatre in 2006. He is also a graduate of the Everyman and Playhouse’s Young Writers’ Programme.

Legendary queens Cherry Brandy and Heidi Handjob have spent years on the drag scene and Cherry carries the scars to prove it. Walking art-kid Pearl Reckless I the new queen on the block and searching for a connection.

Cherry has Heidi to rely on to join her at 3am on a sticky dancefloor. But what happens when you want to keep dancing and the music has stopped? As the queer family Cherry has forged slips through her fingers, who can our queens turn to to keep the party going?

The play received three rehearsed readings in front of sell-out audiences in 2021.

Larkin says: “Everyone is looking for family, for safety and for acceptance no matter how they identify, so hopefully people who might not necessarily be LGBTQIA will see Cherry Jezebel and go ‘oh yes, I understand that, I’ve been in his/her/their shoes.”

Cherry Jezebel is at the Everyman from March 8-22. Tickets from the website HERE
