Anything Goes reveals star cast for Liverpool Empire run

Smash hit musical Anything Goes is heading for the Liverpool Empire this spring – and producers have revealed a star cast.

Simon Callow, Denis Lawson and Bonnie Langford will join West End star Kerry Ellis on the good ship SS American as it makes its eventful Transatlantic trip from New York to Britain.

Ellis takes the lead role of nightclub singer Reno Sweeney while Local Hero and Star Wars actor – and Olivier Award winner - Denis Lawson will play Moonface Martin.

Fellow Olivier Award winner Simon Callow appears as millionaire Elisha Whitney, while Bonnie Langford takes on the role of Evangeline Harcourt.

The touring version of the acclaimed Barbican production – which was also broadcast on the BBC over Christmas – features a 50 strong cast and live orchestra and is directed by three times Tony Award-winning Kathleen Marshall.

It comes to Liverpool from April 20-30.

When the SS American heads out to sea, etiquette and convention head out the portholes as two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love... proving that sometimes destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors, a comical disguise and some good old-fashioned blackmail.

The book was originally written by Guy Bolton and PG Wodehouse and the music comes from Cole Porter.

His score includes classics like I Get a Kick Out of You, You’re The Top, It’s De Lovely, Blow, Gabriel, Blow and the title song Anything Goes which is performed in a remarkable tap-dancing scene.

Anything Goes is at the Liverpool Empire from April 20-30. Tickets HERE.
