LightNight Liverpool falls victim to Coronavirus pandemic

Liverpool’s annual LightNight after hours cultural celebration has been postponed ‘indefinitely’ because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

The 2020 event was to have been held on Friday, May 15.

But organisers have now confirmed that it will not be taking place.

A statement says: “We’re very disappointed to postpone what was shaping up to be an incredible programme of events and experiences for all, but the health of our audiences, artists, staff, volunteers and partners is our priority.

“Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be dedicating the collective energy of our small team at Open Culture to determine how best to adapt to the situation as it unfolds and will make further announcements later in the year.

“We’re very grateful to the hundreds of amazing artists and organisations we have been working with to develop the programme over the past 11 months and we’re very thankful for the support from LightNight funders Arts Council England and Liverpool City Council, our principal sponsor Liverpool John Moores University, sponsor Liverpool Bid Company, and partners Merseyrail, University of Liverpool and Culture Liverpool.”

This year’s LightNight had the theme of Home and venues and artists based across the city centre from the Waterfront to St George’s Quarter and the Baltic to Hope Street were due to stage events. The full programme was due to be announced on April 2.
