Tate Liverpool shuts due to Coronavirus advice

March 17, 2020

Tate Liverpool is closing its doors to visitors until May 1.

The Royal Albert Dock attraction is one of four Tate sites around the UK, all of which are shutting with immediate effect.

The venue is currently staging a show by American artist Theaster Gates, with a summer exhibition of work by celebrated photographer Don McCullin due to open on June 5.

A statement released by the organisation said: “For the welfare of all our visitors and staff, Tate’s Trustees and Director Maria Balshaw have taken the decision to close Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives until May 1.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and we look forward to welcoming visitors back to the galleries when we reopen.”

On Twitter, Tate Liverpool added: "We will continue to share the joy of art on our feeds during this uncertain time and hope wherever you are you find moments of beauty in your day. We look forward to welcoming you back to Tate when we reopen."
