John Lennon anniversary concerts in Liverpool

The 40th anniversary of John Lennon’s murder will be marked with two special concerts at the Philharmonic Hall this December.

Adam Hastings, who until recently played Lennon in the Bootleg Beatles, will perform alongside the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in the John Lennon Songbook on December 8-9.

The show is written by director and playwright Bob Eaton and the concert will be conducted by Richard Balcombe who is currently also involved in the RLPO’s And in the End tour.

It’s the chance to hear classics including Imagine, Julia, Norwegian Wood, A Day in the Life and Strawberry Fields performed with full symphony orchestra, with images to accompany the music.

Eaton was also the man behind Lennon, first staged at the Liverpool Everyman in 1981 and which made a star out of its young John, Mark McGann.

And with 2020 also being 80 years since John Winston Lennon was born, McGann will perform his own tribute to the late Beatle this summer as part of International Beatleweek.

In My Life, featuring the actor and musician performing alongside Swedish Beatles band Pepperland, takes place at Grand Central Hall in Renshaw Street on August 29.
