Ticket to Write brings Beatles stories to the stage

Beatles playwriting competition Ticket to Write returns to the Liverpool stage this summer.

Four 30-minute finalists will have their work staged at the Hope Street Theatre in June as part of the Liverpool Fringe Festival.

And the continuing global appeal of the Fab Four is reflected in the fact that entries for the contest came in from as far away as New Zealand, the United States and Israel.

The finalists include American Tracy Neis whose show Something Inside That was Always Denied is billed as a ‘quirky look’ at what might have happened if John Lennon had not gone on holiday to Spain with Brian Epstein in 1963 and The Beatles were still waiting for their big break four years later.

Writer Ste Mc’s Imagine is a fictitious account of Lennon’s final hours.

Irene Stuart’s Our Baby’s Gone – the title taken from the lyrics of She’s Leaving Home - highlights the dangers of living on the streets, while Paul Daley, whose new play Debt Cemetery is being staged at the Royal Court Studio in April, has created a ‘frothy comedy’ The Ringo Kid, in which the Beatles’ drummer meets an old schoolfriend.

Ticket to Write is brought to the stage in collaboration with Liverpool-based Make it Write Productions.
