Liverpool Cathedral to stage Karl Jenkins' Mass for Peace

Sir Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man will be performed at Liverpool Cathedral as part of this year's Remembrance weekend commemorations.

A massed choir of 200 voices will join soprano Danielle Thomas and tenor Stuart Keen in the concert on Saturday, November 9.

Jenkins’ ‘mass for peace’ was commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum in 1999 as part of Millennium celebrations and to mark the museum's move from London to Leeds.

The work, which was premiered at the Royal Albert Hall in April 2000, pays homage to those who lost their lives in the Kosovan conflict. The performance describes the build-up to war, the war itself and its consequences, combined with a strong plea for peace.

Stephen Mannings, Director of Choral Outreach at Liverpool Cathedral, said: “This will be an extremely memorable and moving performance of this world-renowned and highly acclaimed work.

"The mass choir is made up from performers from across the North West, including the cathedral’s own community choirs L64 and the Gilbert Scott Singers, joined by more than 100 other singers from choirs and choral societies across the region.”
