Steve Levine talks Abbey Road at 50 in Liverpool
Abbey Road comes to Central Library tomorrow when leading British music producer Steve Levine celebrates the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles’ album.
Levine will look at the story behind the 1969 record in the event organised by Liverpool City Council.
The September 27 celebration – entitled The Beatles’ Abbey Road: the making of a masterpiece - will also feature live performances by the Library of Soul choir and its musical director Kara Herstad-Carney.
Levine, a LIPA companion and Grammy Award-winning producer, will be ‘in conversation’ with writer and Fab Four fan David Quantick.
He will use audio clips to explore how the tracks on the record, the final LP to be recorded by the Liverpool band (the Let It Be sessions preceded Abbey Road), were put together, and present a fresh perspective on the influences behind the songs.
Levine said: “The event is almost 50 years to the day of the album’s original release, and it coincides with the official release the new 50th anniversary box set.
“David and I will be discussing how Abbey Road has become one of the most important albums of the last 50 years. I’ll also be highlighting the revolutionary recording and production techniques used on those sessions and how they pointed the way forward to future generations of producers, songwriters and musicians.”
