RLPO releases LFC anthem ahead of Champions League final
The RLPO has released a new version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic – and Liverpool FC anthem – You’ll Never Walk Alone.
The single features Liverpool-born international mezzo soprano Jennifer Johnston (pictured) and comes a week before Liverpool plays Spurs in the Champions League final in Madrid.
Johnston sang the anthem at last December’s Spirit of Christmas concerts in the Philharmonic Hall.
The song, recorded with the RLPO and Philharmonic Choir - conducted by Ian Tracey, also features on her forthcoming album A Love Letter to Liverpool.
All profits from the album will be donated to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company.
Johnston will be an Artist in Residence at the RLPO during the 2019/20 season, performing in a number of concerts and recitals.
Speaking about the release of the single, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic chief executive Michael Eakin said: “We’re pleased to play a part in the city’s celebrations of Liverpool FC’s magnificent achievement in reaching the finals of UEFA Champions League with this recording of the team’s stirring anthem, You’ll Never Walk Alone.
“Good luck Liverpool FC!”
Love Letter to Liverpool will be released on September 29.
