The Red Shoes returns to Liverpool Empire

Matthew Bourne’s dazzling stage version of the Powell and Pressburger film classic The Red Shoes is set to dance back in to the Liverpool Empire.

The double Olivier Award-winning ballet will be performed at the Lime Street theatre in February next year.

It previously enchanted Liverpool audiences in 2017, and follows a triumphant return for Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake this season.

The Red Shoes is a tale of obsession, possession and one girl's dream to be the greatest dancer in the world. Victoria Page lives to dance but her ambitions become a battleground between the two men who inspire her passion.

Set to the achingly romantic music of golden-age Hollywood composer Bernard Herrmann, The Red Shoes is orchestrated by Terry Davies, with cinematic designs by Liverpool’s Lez Brotherston, lighting by Paule Constable and sound by Paul Groothuis.

It will come to Liverpool on tour following a seven week Christmas run at Sadler’s Wells. Casting is yet to be announced.

The Red Shoes is at the Liverpool Empire from February 25-29. Tickets from the website HERE
