Liverpool Playhouse date for Green Day's American Idiot

Explosive musical American Idiot is set to rock the Liverpool Playhouse stage this week part of a 10th anniversary tour.

The award-winning sung-through show, which has previously visited the Empire, features the music of Californian punk rock band Green Day including 21 Guns and Boulevard of Broken Dreams as well as the title track American Idiot, and follows three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9/11 world.

A story of youthful disillusion and mistrust, the production draws parallels with the USA today, where schoolchildren have mobilised to form an impressive campaign for gun law reform.

American Idiot was premiered in California in 2009 before opening on Broadway. It came to the West End in 2015.

The cast of this 10th anniversary production includes Waterloo Road’s Tom Milner as Johnny, and X Factor finalists Luke Friend as St Jimmy and Sam Lavery as Whatsername.
