Liverpool Everyman reveals open day details for 2019

The Everyman will throw open its doors later this month for members of the public to take a peek behind the scenes.

The Hope Street theatre is marking five years since it was reopened following a £28m makeover.

Visitors to the venue on Saturday, March 23 will be able to explore both front and back stage where they will be able to hear about the work that goes on.

Workshops for children will be held throughout the day, while there will also be performances by members of YEP (Young Everyman Playhouse).

And there will be the opportunity to see a short rehearsal for associate director Nick Bagnall’s latest production – an anarchic take on Sondheim’s dark musical Sweeney Todd, featuring Liverpool favourite Liam Tobin and former EastEnders actor Kacey Ainsworth as Sweeney and Mrs Lovett.

Everyman and Playhouse artistic director Gemma Bodinetz said: “In many ways it seems like yesterday the new Everyman opened its doors to the public for the first time, and in others it seems as though we’ve always been here. I think that’s perhaps due to the fact this new Stirling prize winning building grew so perfectly out of its much-loved predecessor.

“Open House will see the theatre throw open every door for our audiences to delight in what we do and how we do it. We do hope you can join us in what after all is everyone’s theatre.”

A full schedule of activities for the day will be on the Everyman website from March 12. Some may need pre-booking.
