Sir Paul McCartney will play a homecoming concert at the Echo Arena this Christmas.

The Freshen Up tour starts in Canada in September, to coincide with the release of McCartney’s new album Egypt Station which is out on September 7.

“There’s nothing like performing in front of your home crowd, especially when it’s been a while,” he said today. “I can’t wait to finish the year on such a high by partying in Liverpool, Glasgow and London.

“We’ve freshened up the show since our last time round and we’re excited to get to play some of our new songs alongside some of the favourites.”

The 76-year-old was in Liverpool recently to film Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, which has been watched almost 25 million times on YouTube since it was broadcast two weeks ago.

The filming included a gig in front of a tiny crowd in the Philharmonic pub.
