Festival of Firsts celebrates Wirral cultural scene

Wirral Festival of Firsts opens the doors to its 2018 event this weekend.

The annual festival of art, poetry, drama, music, exhibitions, storytelling and talks runs from June 30 to July 14 at venues across the peninsula.

Teatro Pomodoro, singer Jacqui Dankworth, cartoonist Tony Husband, Wirral Symphonic Wind Band, author Elizabeth Gates and singer/songwriter Kete Bowers are among a busy line-up.

There is a Community Poetry Day at West Kirby Arts Centre on July 1, and Children’s Festival Day at St John’s Church on July 7, while Art on the Prom opens on Hoylake Parade on July 8, and will then form part of the Independents Biennial 2018.

Wirral Festival of Firsts was founded by John Gorman in 2011 and is an annual community arts festival which is volunteer-run.

The festival aims to celebrate the arts, inspire creativity, encourage participation by all, showcase local talent, bring outstanding performers to Wirral and offer something for everyone.
