See new plays at 2018 Liverpool Fringe Festival

Liverpool Fringe Festival returns over the next fortnight – offering theatregoers the chance to see a host of new plays at venues in the city.

The productions will be staged at 81 Renshaw Street, Frederik’s, the Casa, the Bombed Out Church, The Caledonia, the Jacaranda, Valley Theatre, and the Hope Street Theatre.

Among them is dark comedy King of the World by Brian Coyle, being staged at 81 Renshaw Street on June 6 and 7 and which asks, what happens when a man with an enormous thirst for power, but a tragically brittle ego is made King of the World?

Meanwhile the Make It Write production group presents four new plays focusing on the power of strong women. Ian Gray’s Tomb, The Great Escape by David Haworth, Killing Children by Patrick Maguire and John Maguire’s Kitty, Queen of the Wash House will be staged at Hope Street Theatre on June 15 and 16.

Make It Write founder Sharon Colman said: “I chose Virago, meaning a strong female heroine, as the banner and the theme for writers submitting plays.

“Make it Write’s remit is to try to give more of Liverpool’s wealth of written work a chance to be performed.”

The Valley Players, Bespectacled Theatre Company, Courtyard Players and The Rhubarb and Custard Theatre Company are among those involved in the festival.

The Liverpool Fringe Festival is being staged in conjunction with The Guide. It runs from June 1-17. Check out the full listings and book tickets HERE.
