Everyman and Playhouse autumn season revealed
Deaf School, David O’Doherty, Alan Bennett and A Christmas Carol are among the line-up in the Everyman & Playhouse’s new season.
The autumn and winter season also includes a return for Everyman alumnus Matthew Kelly – appearing in Bennett’s The Habit of Art, a new play by Northern Broadsides, and a dramatization of Jane Austen’s Persuasion.
And the line-up features the previously-announced new stage adaptation of bestseller The Lovely Bones, coming to the Everyman for two weeks from September 25, while the rock ‘n’ roll panto this year is the story of The Snow Queen.
Meanwhile a production of Lisa Genova’s novel Still Alice, starring Sharon Small in the title role as a driven professional diagnosed with early on-set Alzheimer’s, is at the Playhouse in November.
Frantic Assembly’s The Unreturning, the title taken from Wilfred Owen’s poem, explores the profound effect conflict has on young lives.
And there is a new collaborative partnership between the Everyman & Playhouse and Battersea Arts Centre, which sees two pieces – Frankenstein: How to Make a Monster, and Macbeth – form part of the new season.
Comedians Sara Pascoe and David O'Doherty, and film critic Mark Kermode, all bring their live shows to the stage.
And the season kicks off in riotous fashion with a pair of 45th anniversary gigs at the Everyman for legendary Liverpool band Deaf School, formed in the city in 1973.
Everyman & Playhouse artistic director Gemma Bodinetz said: “This season is a rich and wonderful cornucopia of dazzling work from favourite artists and companies.
“It’s a season buzzing with invention and new ways of creating experiences that will delight and live long in the memory. It’s a season where the familiar is spun into something fresh and beautifully unexpected. Even our beloved Playhouse will be seen anew as it proudly hosts Liverpool Biennial 2018 this summer.”
