All aboard for MATE's Treasure Island this summer
Buccaneers and buried gold come to a park or garden near you this summer as MATE Productions presents its latest open-air theatre show.
The Prescot-based company has created a steampunk re-imagining of Phil Wilmott’s adaption of Treasure Island – Robert Louis Stephenson’s classic tale of piratical derring-do.
Expect swashbuckling a-plenty as young Jim Hawkins and the mysterious Long John Silver set off on an adventure to find Captain Flint’s buried treasure on a map where X marks the spot.
This Treasure Island has futuristic costume by Jane Allen, percussion from Francisco Carrasco, choreography courtesy of Beverley Norris Edmonds, and original live music from Taran Harris.
And it’s all hands on deck, with MATE artistic director Gaynor La Rocca directing and producing the production.
Treasure Island opens at Prescot Woodland Theatre on June 9 before voyaging to Reynolds Park (June 10), Sudley House (June 23), St James’s Gardens at Liverpool Cathedral (June 30), St Nicholas Church Gardens in Halewood (July 1), Croxteth Hall Walled Gardens (July 7) and Ness Botanic Gardens (July 8) before returning to Prescot om July 14.
