Liverpool Biennial reveals artists for its 10th edition

Chester-born artist Ryan Gander and leading French New Wave filmmaker Agnès Varda are among the artists revealed for the 10th Liverpool Biennial.

Bosses at the UK’s largest celebration of contemporary art unveiled the line-up for the 2018 edition of the festival today.

Thirty-six artists from more than 20 countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Poland and Canada, have been invited to be part of next summer’s event, which marks 20 years of Biennial presenting international art in the city.

Beautiful world, where are you? will invite artists and audiences to reflect on a world of social, political and economic turmoil.

The Biennial programme of free exhibitions and events is presented in locations across Liverpool, including public spaces and the city’s leading art venues: Bluecoat, FACT, Open Eye Gallery, Tate Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University’s Exhibition Research Lab, National Museums Liverpool, RIBA North, the Liverpool Playhouse, Victoria Gallery & Museum and Blackburne House.

The John Moores Painting Prize at the Walker Art Gallery and Bloomberg New Contemporaries at LJMU’s Liverpool School of Art & Design are also on show

And a Biennial Fringe programme will be published in 2018.

Liverpool Biennial director Sally Tallant said: “The 10th edition of the Biennial is an important moment for all of us, marking 20 years in the city, and inviting artists and audiences to reflect on a world of social, political and economic turmoil.

“We’re proud to be part of the city’s programme for the 10th anniversary of Liverpool European Capital of Culture 2008, alongside Tate Liverpool, itself celebrating its 30th anniversary.”

Liverpool Biennial runs from July 14 to October 28.
