An Officer and a Gentleman to sweep in to Liverpool
A new stage musical version of romantic movie weepie An Officer and a Gentleman is at the Liverpool Empire this week as part of its first ever tour.
The show, which features the film’s hit song Up Where We Belong as well as THAT iconic scene, will spend a week at the Lime Street venue.
It had its world premiere at the Curve, and the tour also takes in Manchester, Dublin, Leeds, Sheffield, Southampton and Cardiff.
The musical is based on the 1982 Oscar-winning film starring Richard Gere which tells the story of Zack Mayo who is in training to become a US Navy Pilot.
When a swaggering Zack rolls in to boot camp, he finds drill Sergeant Foley makes life anything but easy for him.
And when he falls for local girl Paula Pokrifki and tragedy befalls his friend and fellow candidate, Sid, Zack realises the importance of love and friendship and finds the courage to be himself and win the heart of the woman he loves. It’s only then he can truly become both an Officer and a Gentleman.
The musical includes 80s classics like Alone, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Toy Soldiers, Don’t Cry Out Loud and Material Girl.
An Officer and A Gentleman is at the Liverpool Empire from May 21-26. Tickets from the website HERE.
