International Beatleweek celebrates all things Fab
The Mathew Street Festival may be no more, but thousands of Beatles fans still descend on Liverpool each August Bank Holiday to celebrate all things Fab Four.
And the 2017 International Beatleweek, which runs from August 23-29, is promising to be as busy as ever, with a host of events and appearances from Beatles bands from across the globe, and some very special guests.
This year those guests include Abbey Road engineer Ken Scott, Larry Kane – the US broadcaster who went with John, Paul, George and Ringo on their American tours in 1964 and 1965, Paul McCartney’s former press guru Geoff Baker, and not forgetting The Beatles’ hairdresser Leslie Cavendish who has just published a book about working on the locks of the band, as well as other 60s stars.
They are all appearing at the Annual Beatles Convention at the Adelphi on Sunday, August 27, along with John Lennon’s half-sister Julia Baird who will talk about her brother as a poet.
While much of the Beatleweek programme is only open to fans on festival packages, the Convention is one event that anyone can attend – with entry to the day of music, interviews, film shows, exhibitions and the substantial Beatles’ marketplace costing £20.
Other events which you can simply drop in to (with individual entry or ticket prices) include The Weekend Warm Up at the Cavern on August 23, Mythew Street Monterey Pop Festival at the Cavern on August 24, the live music at the Cavern and Cavern Pub throughout the festival weekend, and Alma De Cuban Heels Day at yes, you’ve guessed it, Alma de Cuba in Seel Street, on August 25.
